L'Oreal Paris Honors New York, NY Resident Gina Keatley in the Sixth Annual Women of Worth Award

Vote for Gina as the National Honoree: November 7 - November 23 on womenofworth.com

NEW YORK, NY, November 09, 2011 /Cosmetics PR News/ -- New York resident Gina Keatley has been honored as a Woman of Worth by L'Oreal Paris for her work with Nourishing NYC/USA, a community food program that strives to provide "nutrition for all" in New York City and throughout America. Gina is one of ten honorees from across the country that will be recognized for her extraordinary volunteer achievements and positive influence on her community.

RECOGNITION
Each of the incredible honorees has received $10,000 for her charitable cause and will be recognized at an awards ceremony and dinner hosted by Hearst Magazines and L'Oreal Paris on December 8th in New York City. At the event, one National Honoree, chosen via a public online vote, will be announced, and she will receive an additional $25,000 for her charity.

VOTING
Public online voting for the Women of Worth National Honoree is open from today (November 7th) through November 23rd on womenofworth.com. Visitors to the site will vote once per email address for their favorite Woman of Worth, and the honoree with the most votes will be named National Honoree.

GINA KEATLEY - WOMAN OF WORTH
As a child, Gina personally experienced the devastating effects of poverty and homelessness. During her time living in a low-income neighborhood, she noticed how many community members were nutritionally deprived. A combination of her background and a strong interest in nutrition and cooking inspired her curiosity with the connection between poverty and obesity. This passion led her to launch Nourishing NYC, a non-profit community food program that strives to provide "nutrition for all" in New York City.

From their annual Earth Day Celebration in the streets of Harlem to their V.A.N. (vehicle advocating nutrition) and Junior Chef Program, offering workshops for low income children, Gina helps introduce the next generation to a greener, healthier lifestyle. Nourishing NYC strives to help clients move beyond emergency food provisions by teaching them how to make healthy and affordable choices for themselves and their families.

In 2010 alone, Nourishing NYC served 13,538 meals, which was an increase of almost 400 percent from the previous year, and distributed four thousand pounds of produce in diabetic and obese communities. This year, Nourishing NYC's V.A.N. has already provided 24,000 pounds of produce in neighborhoods like Harlem and the Bronx.

In response to the number of requests she was receiving from other communities looking to implement a similar program, Gina launched Nourishing USA this past September. This nationwide extension has already delivered more than 100 hunger advocacy kits, which teach communities to grow, gather and give. "I am so honored to be chosen as a L'Oreal Paris Woman of Worth," said Gina Keatley, L'Oreal Paris Woman of Worth honoree and founder of Nourishing NYC/USA. "This generous award is going to allow Nourishing NYC/USA to continue making a positive impact in my community and beyond. It is truly a privilege to be among the company of these ten amazing women."
